There are actually many different ways in which we can protect not just our children, but ourselves as well. We can never predict what kind of incident may happen, but it is better to be safe than sorry. If you ask most, they’d rather spend a few bucks on these types of alarm systems rather than be the victim of a burglary incident, or a fire accident and lose tons of money.

Preserving and Staining Your Teak

It really isn’t all that necessary to protect teak furniture. Teakwood is exclusive in the aspect that if you leave it in its native state it doesn’t need anything done to it to stay nice. If you leave your teak furniture outdoors 24 hours a day seven days a week 365 days a year and not have to worry about it, this is even if the climate conditions in your area are extreme. While it’s true that teak will turn a gray color when left in the sun for lengthy periods of time, this is native and it doesn’t harm any of the integrity of the wood.

For people who want to preserve the native color of the wood that it has when they buy their furnishings, it is a common practice to use a teak sealer. They often use it to darken it up a little as well. Applying a teak sealant to your furniture will do more than just help to darken it up, it will also provide a UV protection and an anti-fungicide which will keep mold from developing. It doesn’t matter whether you’re teak furnishings is old or new, you can apply teak sealants to them after they have been cleaned. These sealers aren’t the same thing as varnish. It simply acts to preserve the wood while allowing it to breathe and release oils naturally. It will not bubble or peel up like varnish will. The darker the stain that you get, the better UV protection you are going to give your furnishings, which means less applications in the future. It isn’t very difficult to apply the preservative and it is pretty straightforward. Try to make sure that before you put on your first coat that the piece of furnishings has been sitting in the sun for a week or two which allows all of the wood grains to open up. When you are making application, simply spray it on to the furniture and then rub it with a rag. Your teak furnishings is going to require two applications, and make sure that you get it on all surfaces. This includes top, bottom, sides, and in between any slats that might be present. If you are applying the stain on any surface that you care about, then you need to make sure that you put something under your wood as you don’t want to cause stain damage to anything you care about.You will need to apply the stain yearly after it has been washed with a mild detergent and water, but only to the surfaces that gets on

This is pretty much all that you have to do in order to defend your teak furniture. It doesn’t hurt to wash your furniture every once in a while with a mild soap and water to remove any normal soiling. Be careful spilling things on the sealant like coffee, wine, or foods that stain, as these can penetrate through the sealer and leave stains on the teak. If you want to improve your furniture and resistance to these types of stains you can put on a teak clear coat.

Because of the native oils and teak, it is pretty much impervious to water. Because of these natural oils that leach out of the wood, you don’t want to put any lacquer or water sealers on it. Polyurethane and glaze products will never fail to peel up and chip off of teak wood products. The only way to remove these mistakes is by standing, which can be a real nightmare and is best avoided.

Contrary to what you might think putting oil on the teak isn’t going to keep it from turning Grey, and more often than not it will end up in causing your furniture to mold or mildew. This again causes more work for you as you will need to wash the furnishings with bleach and soap and then sand the surface.
