How To Remodel Your Current Kitchen Cabinets
These days most people are remodeling their homes instead of selling. You get the kitchen of your dreams this way. One way of changing your kitchen is doing something with the cabinets you have in your kitchen. I am going to teach you how to make old kitchen cabinets beautiful. You will be amazed at what a little paint can do for your cabinets.
This project is considered a do it yourself project. If you can paint, then this project will be successful. You will be painting your cabinets to update them. You will need to take the hinges, cabinet knobs and the doors off. It is best to take them outside and lay them on paper or plastic so that you may paint them. As you are taking the cabinet doors off the frames, please number each door so that you can put it back where it belongs when the painting is completed.
You can lay plastic sheeting on the ground, and place the cabinet doors next to each other. You will need to use an electric sander, which makes the job go so much faster, or you can use sand paper and elbow grease to sand the doors down. You will only need to sand enough to give the primer something to grip to. You must not skip this step otherwise your paint will start to peel off the doors.
The next thing you need to do is purchase the primer and the paint color of your choice. The surfaces have been sanded and it is now ready for a coat of white primer. You only need to use one coat of white primer before the paint color is painted on the surface. The primer is used to block the dark stains that are on the surfaces of what you are going to paint. Priming the cabinets also makes for a fantastic looking finished product.
Before you paint your cabinet doors and frames it is a good idea to take a clean cloth and dust the surface clean. Now it’s time to prime, you may use a roller or a paint brush. Whichever one is most comfortable for you to use. Using the roller will prevent the brush strokes in the paint. You can use the brush to paint the cabinets with and them go over the surfaces once with the roller to get rid of the brush strokes.
The time has come for painting. You have done all the preparation work, and the cabinets are ready to be painted. You will paint on the white primer coat, and only one coat is needed. Let it dry at the very least for a few hours. Then come back and paint with you paint color. You will need two coats of paint on the cabinets. Of course you will need to let the paint dry between the two coats.
Now that you have updated your cabinets by painting them, you need to put on the finishing touches. The finishing touches are the hinges and knobs, otherwise known as the jewelry of the cabinets. Spray painting these things is a great idea. Choose a nice metal color such as gold or bronze. This take two coats of paint just like the cabinets did. If you decide to buy new hinges and knobs, I would do some shopping around, as they can be expensive.
At this point I have shown you how to perk up your kitchen cabinets. It is amazing what a little bit of paint can do for old cabinets. Just by changing the cabinets with paint you will have a whole new look. Painting your cabinets is budget friendly. If you do the work, you will save money, and not have to pay someone to paint for you.
