How to Choose Your Shower Filters

September 20th, 2009 No comments

Some shower filters are a waste of money. Other shower water filters are safe, effective and affordable. What you dont know can hurt you. So, read this article.

The funny thing about shower filters is that most people do not realize that shower filters were supposed to be used for cosmetic purposes. The reason was to get rid of a lot of the chlorine in the water because of the damage it did to your hair and skin.

People who are allergic to chlorine needed shower water filters to protect themselves from rashes and/or breaking out. The substance is present in practically every publicly treated supply in the world, yet it is not the most deadly of the contaminants in our public supplies.

With that said there are many different things that chlorine can and will do to your health. You see chlorine may not be all that detrimental to your health but when it reacts to the bacteria, and other micro organisms that are in the water supply, the byproduct it creates can be very harmful. The objective here is that you reduce the chlorine in your water supply so that they can’t harm you.

The research supporting these statements was released early last year. But, the research was completed many years ago. Respected publications did not want the public to know. They felt there would be a call for the end of chlorinationor at least, thats what they said.

With that said, if it were up to me I would tell everyone that they need to get a shower filter in the bathroom, and a purifying system in the kitchen. There was a reason as to why they didn’t want you to know and that was because they were afraid of the very large cost that was going to come along with the new disinfection methods.

When you are reading a product performance guide, disinfection byproducts are typically listed as THMs or trihalomethanes. When you are reading the water quality report provide by your local facility, they are listed as TTHMs or total trihalomethanes. You see, there are a number of different compounds that are released during the disinfection process, so they group them together.

The main objective here by using a shower filter is to reduce the amount of chlorine in your water. Higher amounts of chlorine can often indicate that there could be some THM’s in your water which if you did not know are cancer causing contaminants. If you are not aware of the fact that you can actually consume contaminants by breathing because once the water is run there are airborne contaminants.

Breathing these contaminants in is bad, but when it comes to consuming them, drinking water and breathing them in are not the only way. Did you know that you can consume these strictly by taking a shower? The latest studies have shown that they are consumed through the pores in your skin, and now say that more contaminants are consumed in the bathroom, than the kitchen.

Be advised, those expensive shower water filters made by Wellness provide effective contaminant removal, but they cost a lot more than necessary. Instead of paying $189 for a system, you can get an effective one direct from the manufacturer for around $67.

Thats what you need to know about shower filters. If you shop with care, you can protect your long-term health.
