Owning A Chainsaw Can Be A Life Saver

August 11th, 2009 No comments

One of the more dependable equipments that has been invented is the chainsaw. From the logging sites in the woods, to the lumberyards, to the mills, it finds itself in the tool shed of your backyard. Through the years, the machine has even become a handy tool for regular homeowners.

Chainsaws, besides cutting logs and lumber are also a great tool to prune large limbs of trees. If you have trees in your yard, a chainsaw is an essential device at home. It also makes cutting down dead and unwanted trees easier.

The chainsaw is viewed as a heavy duty equipment fit only for heavy and extreme activities by a lot of people. Although this could be true to some models, there are actually modern varieties of chainsaws that are designed for different work and power demands. Aside from the gasoline generated mammoths, there are electric powered machines that are just perfect for household activities.

Although the electric chainsaw is lightweight and less powerful that its gasoline generated relative, it is powerful enough to prune limbs, cut up fallen limbs, and even cut smaller trees. The only drawback to this excellent equipment is the power cord. You will need to work near a power outlet to operate this chainsaw.

There is a mistaken notion that chainsaws are difficult and risky to operate. The modern chainsaws are equipped with different features for our safety and convenience. New features allow for better control, secure grip. The controls are even very easy to manage and have designs that allow for wider foot placement. My favorite feature is the anti vibration system. It definitely makes operating a chainsaw more comfortable and lessens the fatigue.

They are excellent for pruning trees. It makes cleaning up of dead or dying limbs quite quick and efficient. When you are pruning top trees near utility lines, a chainsaw is an invaluable help.

Just recently, while gathering firewood during a camping trip,a 32 year old mechanic who happens to be an ex marine was attacked by a mountain lion. Unfortunately for the cat, the chainsaw brought by the gentleman was put to good use. A single strike from the chainsaw made the mountain lion change his mind..

Having a chainsaw at your disposal has a lot of perks. Aside from making heavy chores light, apparently it can be a life saver as well.

Lawn Mower Concerns

August 2nd, 2009 No comments

An eye catching lawn is a status symbol for many homeowners. Households compete for the best looking lawn in the block secretly. Probably because a well kept lawn does reflect a well kept house and a well kept household. A lawn says a lot about its owners. Many homeowners are quite picky with their choice of lawn mower. After all the care of the right lawn mower is the secret to a perfect lawn.

There are various types of mowers to suit our various needs. For demanding lawns, a lot go for gas powered machines, be it push type or self propelled. There are also the less powerful electric powered lawn mowers. Lastly but personally my favorite, the not so publicized and talked about manual reel.

The gas powered mower is capable of multiple tasks. It has side discharge, some have bag clippings and they can mulch too. There are many good reviews particularly for gas models that come with recoil starts. The owners raved how it gets fired up at first pull almost every time. This hardworking machine can accommodate heavy demands of huge lawns. Like any gas powered machine, it carries with it environmental concern issues. Most lawn mowers though have passed emission standard laws. Another drawback on some models is the need to adjust all four wheels when changing the cutting height.

The electric powered lawn mower is another option. Compared to its gas powered relatives, these variants are a lot quieter and is almost maintenance free. Many of these types are cord free. There are those that can be bought with solar powered batteries but those can be really expensive. All solar charged lawn mowers use lead batteries and you need to replace them every two years or so. Proper disposal is a must as it could have environmental issues. The maximum acreage per charge is a quarter of an acre and if you don’t have the cordless type, the longest cord that i have known of is only a hundred feet.

The ultimate in quiet and economical would be the manual reel type lawn mower. It is most easy on the budget and requires the least maintenance. These very environment friendly devices however, are only good for small, flat, and weed free lawns.

Lawn mower types and styles are as varied as our taste. Several factors need to be considered in choosing the right equipment for your lawn. There is a current trend to being environment friendly. People are concerned of the effects of machines to the environment – the greener the better. Lawn size would be another choice element. Your lawn size determines the demand of work for your lawn mower. Other determinants would be the type of grass that you have, and the weather conditions. There will be lawns that have obstacles and difficult terrains that will require a particular make of a lawnmower.

It is important to always consider repercussions to your health. For people who have health considerations, especially those who are suffering from asthma, the best choice would be a manual mower. These are the types that stir up the least amount of dust and pollen.

Many household activities and family events take place in the lawn. A beautiful lawn could be the site of happy times and valuable memories. It requires the right touch and proper care. Give your natural carpet the perfect caress with the right lawn mower.
