How To Choose Between The 3 Types Of Children’s Bedroom Furniture

July 10th, 2009 No comments

Children’s bedroom furniture used to be something that was fairly straightforward to select – since there was simply so little choice it really didn’t seem to matter what you chose. Today children are very much luckier, with some beautiful ranges available. But with choice come more difficult decisions, and you’ll be anxious to make the right choice for your child. Bearing in mind issues such as cost, assembly and practicality will all be of importance.

If you’ve started looking around recently for children’s bedroom furniture one thing you will probably have noticed is that you can generally lump children’s furniture into one of three categories. The first of these is the budget furniture section, with very basic styles, usually requiring self assembly and with little to offer past the basics. Whilst affordable, it’s always worth considering what’s on offer if you spend just a little more.

Once you look past the budget range the next type of children’s bedroom furniture tends to be those made from natural materials – usually wood. Wooden bedroom furniture for children has tremendous appeal. Wooden bedroom furniture has a lasting appeal, and provides for a classical style that can be adapted and furnished in many different ways. It often makes no difference whether the bedroom furniture is for a boy or a girl, and will usually last for much longer.

It is often the third type of children’s bedroom furniture which sticks out most of all, at least for your children! If you want to have fun, and appease your child’s insatiable appetite for these designs and styles, then children’s furniture which takes inspiration from popular ideas such as racing cars or fairy tales, or even from TV characters such as Noddy will always prove popular. Instantly adding colour, style and excitement to your child’s bedroom, these will certainly delight!

As far as children’s bedroom furniture is concerned, regardless of overall style one of the issues which will be important to consider is the overall practicality of any furniture you choose. There are significant needs as far as children’s bedrooms are concerned, and the choice of furniture will make a great deal of difference. Children’s bedrooms are usually much smaller than ours, and this is just one aspect that can affect the practicality of the furniture chosen.

However, it isn’t just this difference in size which is important. At the same time as bearing this in mind you will also need to consider the various ways in which their bedroom is to be used. For ourselves we may simply sleep and dress in ours, but children’s bedrooms become private spaces, playrooms, somewhere to play with their friends, and even do schoolwork. From computers to televisions, bookcases to racing tracks, children’s bedrooms have to be practical.

When choosing children’s bedroom furniture it will be necessary to balance cost against design and practicality. If your child is starting to need their bedroom to suit a broader range of needs, then dynamic, well designed furniture will be important, allowing him or her to have enough space for all of their items, as well as still having room to play, work or relax. Choosing furniture with storage space and flexibility will be helpful.

Overall, when choosing children’s bedroom furniture it is important to consider the longer term uses which your child will have for his or her bedroom furniture. It will also be important to consider quality, since you will need to know that furniture is strong, durable and safe, and will give years of value. There are many ways to decorate and personalise your child’s bedroom, and they may well want to be involved with this. But above all, when it comes to the basic furniture, think long term, and think practicality.

2009 A Shopping Odyssey – The Hunt For Rattan Furniture

June 8th, 2009 No comments

When you make a purchase online you need to be sure that the retailer is reliable and will deliver the goods promptly. If you’re only buying fairly small items – a music CD or some stationery for example, then you have a fairly wide selection of websites to choose from. But what about buying larger household goods such as rattan furniture? Perhaps you are looking for a leather corner sofa – in which case, who can you trust when you only have a website to view?

One of the best ways of approaching this problem is to use review sites. I’m a great one for reading up on retailers and service providers, and while you have to take some of the reviews with a pinch of salt, it’s easy to get an overall feel of a retailer’s reliability and customer service from the general tone of most of the reviews. This can be a great way to start looking for a suitable place to purchase household goods.

A quick search online reveals that for ‘leather corner sofa’ there are nearly two million results, and almost a million for ‘rattan furniture’. My hunt for a good retailer was certainly not short on choice! There were quite a few review sites as well, and hunting through these revealed a significant amount of both good and bad reviews. Given differing experiences, how does one decide whether the reviews are reliable or not?

There is really no point using a global search engine when you’re looking for large, heavy items such as a leather sofa if you happen to be based in the UK, since many retailers aren’t terribly happy about posting such an item. Adjusting my search to UK based retailers helped, as did stipulating an interest in being able to compare modern and contemporary furniture styles, as well as the more traditional styles made a difference. A modern, square cut leather sofa looks great in many homes, but chunkier, plumper leather furniture often suits older homes better, and it makes sense to be able to see a variety of styles and designs available.

Another aspect which I feel is important when it comes to choosing furniture is that websites should provide a wide range of styles. Granted there are specialists, but for most of us it helps to be able to see at a glance styles including contemporary and modern, as well as those more traditional.

The internet has certainly revolutionised the way in which retail works, by allowing traders to sell products at much lower prices than those found on the high street. Because they have fewer overheads, the entire business can be run more economically, and by offering lower prices than the high street retailers, for most customers this represents a real advantage. By being able to compare prices within seconds, it’s also in the interest of the retailers to stay competitive.

So, where did my journey to find a leather sofa and some rattan furniture for my conservatory lead me? From nearly two million results I wanted somewhere that was in the UK, delivered free of charge anywhere in the country, offered traditional, contemporary and modern furniture at extremely competitive prices, and of course had a website that was easy to navigate, with good clear pictures and a secure order page. Oh, and I never order from a website that doesn’t have a phone number, and definitely not from a retailer who insists I call a premium number!

If after all that I told you that I gave up, and that the internet failed to meet my expectations, then you would not be surprised. However, my online odyssey did result in locating a UK based retailer who offers a wide choice of excellent furniture and household items at prices which are amongst the most competitive anywhere. Thanks to cleverclicker.co.uk my leather sofa and rattan furniture were delivered free of charge, and they even provided me with a local phone number to call. Forget searching online – find what you’re after instead. Give them a call, and tell them I sent you.
