Home Alarm Systems – Crime Deterrent and Vital Warning

October 19th, 2009 Matthew Kerridge No comments

There is one thing that all home alarm systems have in common. Their primary purpose is to protect and warn your family in the event of an emergency. How much is your family’s safety and well being worth to you?

Not only can home alarm systems warn your family of an intrusion and automatically summon police, but a decent one will come with a smoke detector option and a medical emergency button. This makes your alarm system, when connected to the compatible smoke detector, capable of automatically contacting the fire department in the event of a fire in your home. Moreover, your alarm system will contact emergency medical technicians in the event of a medical emergency.

When seconds count, what would you give for minutes? The simple push of a button could save minutes in the arrival of medical personnel to your home and your loved one.

Home Alarm Systems Types The most common and least expensive type of home alarm system is the hard wired system. This type of system will run off of your telephone land-line. It works best in newer homes where land-line are not exposed and thus capable of being easily cut by a determined intruder. However, this system is the most difficult to move should you change residence.

Wireless alarm systems are easily transportable should you move and they run off your telephone land-line as well but are not prone to being cut. Cable alarm systems run off of your broadband internet connection eliminating need of your telephone land-line completely. However, if your cable is down so is your alarm system.

Cellular alarm systems run via a two-way cellular network which is used to connect to and notify a central station in the event of an emergency. This cellular network is not the same as the one used by your cell phone and therefore dropped calls are not an issue.

Adequate Protection for Your Family No matter what type of home alarm system you choose, be it hard wired, cellular or cable, it should include the following minimum options, a control panel, both door and window sensors and at the very least, one motion detector.

Statistics have shown the 85% of all burglary intrusions are carried out by entering through a door. However, whether access is gained by door or window, the access point that a burglar will select will always be the door or window least visible from the street. For this reason, the primary location for placement of window and door sensors and motion detectors should always be on those windows and doors that can not be viewed easily from the street or by neighbors.

Prices and designs of home alarm systems vary. However; three overriding facts remain valid regardless of the price or design of an alarm system. First, home alarm systems serve as a crime deterrent, a vital warning system and an automatic connection to authorities. Second, home alarm systems are worth the investment and actually pay for themselves in the long run by lowering home owner insurance premiums. What is the most important reason of all? Your family is worth it.

Burglar Alarm Systems Guide

The unexpected can strike at any moment, disrupting life and presenting potentially dangerous situations. Home theft and burglaries are on the rise, and difficult economic times are driving more and more people to extreme measures. Having protection against an intrusion is important to protection for family and personal possessions. It also can provide the peace of mind in knowing that no victim is alone in a burglary when burglar alarm systems are present.

Often, security system buyers will begin researching the alarms themselves, searching for special features and accessories. However, it is important to first decide what company will be responsible for the daily monitoring of the home or business in question. The features and incentives for these companies are changing constantly, getting better with competition. The company should be priced competitively and also have a good history with customers and the Better Business Bureau.

A good monitoring company will have basic alarm systems, in addition to available accessories for purchase. These additions can change burglar alarm systems from entry level, to elite. Make sure that the monitoring company offers not only the alarm, but some type of add-on as a complimentary upgrade.

All alarm systems should have motion sensors and detector upgrade options. Sensors can be attached to doors, windows, and on the walls of various rooms and hallways that would be susceptible to an intrusion. These devices can bypass the motion sensors in specified areas if needed, such as the presence of a pet.

Another upgrade that can prove beneficial is sound detection. Most alarm systems do not cover the garage or attics, unless specially customized to do so. Having a glass break or sound detection can scare away would-be thieves and intruders, before they ever reach the main part of a home or business.

Many people report being able to save money on their homeowners or business property insurance upon the installation of an alarm system. Many insurance companies encourage these installations by offering discounts to policy holders of up to twenty percent. The reduction in the policy rate will often pay for the monthly monitoring fees, essentially offering free home security.

Once the alarm system has been installed, accessories can be purchased from websites and store to be installed during or after the initial system installation. For those wishing to monitor their entire property, outside cameras and motion detectors can be purchased, even for the driveway. Security lights are popular as they can be set to activate only when motion is present. Wireless cameras are being used to digitally record property, both inside and out for optimal protection. Night vision and infrared can be added to these in order to make them work fluidly.
