We may not see it at first, but our asphalt-paved driveway can experience corrosion over time. What seems like a couple of minor cracks that are barely noticeable can turn into large cracks if left in disrepair.

Leaving the asphalt paving in our driveways or walkways unprotected with some kind of sealant could result to this kind of damage which will prove to be more costly to replace in the future.

This is where sealcoating comes into play.

SEALCOATING ASPHALT DRIVEWAYS

Asphalt is the type of paving whose components change in with weather changes. When under extreme heat like in summertime; it can render the asphalt tender which could change its form; while in cold weather as in cold season; it can turn brittle, which may result in the developing of cracks.

With this information, there is one thing that needs to be done and that is to sealcoat the asphalt. Sealcoating is a preventive measure to protect the properties of the asphalt over a longer period of time.

It might be a tiresome task but the benefits far outweigh any work that we need to do in order to preserve the quality of the asphalt.

Sealcoating can restore the patina of the asphalt; enhance its resistance against toxic chemicals and weather conditions; giving it an extended lifespan which means savings in the future.

With this kind of protective measure, we can be sure that our asphalt will be kept in good shape for a couple of years; after which, we can simply apply the sealcoating technique again to recondition it.

USING SEALCOAT

The best thing about sealcoat is that we don’t have to hire an expert to do the job for us. We can easily do this ourselves which could again save us money.

Generally, we have to keep the asphalt from dirt and other debris; if there are gaps we also have to mend the gaps with the proper asphalt filler; and then we’re ready to begin with the sealcoating.

There are sealcoat mixtures available in the market which come with directions in them so it will be easy for us to come up with the right mixture. After we have applied the first coat; a second one is necessary.

We should let the sealcoating dry for about 24 hours.

Mr. Robert Devalt is interested in different types of paving and writes about sealcoating equipment and much more on his website Paving Land. If you have any questions about paving, you must take a minute with Robert.

When it comes to home building or remodeling, we particularly spend time to make both the interiors and outdoor parts of the homes as striking as possible. Having an appealing home both inside and out, can provide a glimpse of the tastes of the homeowners; thus, having a well-laid design is imperative.

Among the things that people will first notice about our homes is just how shiny it looks; as usually reflected in our floorings in major parts of the house as well as kitchen counter tops and bathroom counters.

A polished look makes any home look more inviting and cleaner, too.

POLISHED STONES

Polished stones are frequently utilized in floors both in homes and commercial structures. These are more attractive than regular paving and a majority of people find them more cost-efficient than other pavers available.

If we are thinking of building our homes or remodeling them, choosing to use polished stones will certainly work as they add to the overall impression that our homes create.

Nothing is more appealing than having these polished stones in place where the shiny quality of these can give us a a reflective feature.

There are many other applications for polished stones other than floorings and counters. They can also be used for hearths and fashion accessories!

There are many varieties of polished stones that we can use to complement the lay-out theme of our homes. These types of stones include granite, marble and limestone. They come in different finishes so it will be easy for us to figure out which one will best suit our interiors and exteriors.

KEEPING POLISHED STONES

While polished stones can increase the aesthetic value of our homes, they could be harder to keep than the usual floor pavers. It is best that we use a special type of sealant to lock in the polished quality of our stone paving.

Having the characteristic of absorbing liquid easily, the tint of polished stones could become faded and stained if they are often come into contact with any kind of liquid. It is hence of utmost importance that we wipe off spills the instant they happen.

Robert Devalt is very interested in different types of paving and writes about polished concrete and much more on his homepage. If you have any questions about paving, you must take a minute with Robert.

Today, paving stones are turning increasingly common in our daily life. They have numerous uses such as to build driveways, pool deck, a patio or walkways in your garden. Beneath are the reasons why paving stones are commonly used today.

The first reason is its brilliant looks. Different from other materials such as asphalt and concrete, paving stones with various colors and styles will make your home more sophisticated, elegant and modish.

The second one is its peerless versatility. We can practice this paving material both in a residential positioning and trade aspect. Beside constructing patios, driveways and pool decks, paving stones are as well applied to make parking places, golf cart routes and roads hard. They get a remarkable part in making the graceful look of those projects. Moreover, unique durability is another reason. Paving stone is not only imperishable, but also highly flexible. It is rather difficult to break when being under the loading.

Also, paving stones are really available to mend and keep. In some situations, for example, you wish to have a new manner for your patio, the paving stone can simply raised, removed and repaired with little time and effort. What is more, upkeep is as well rather available. When the patio is dirty, you can simply sweep and rinse the surface. It will turn back to its original color and beautiful face.

In additional, this material is absolutely safe and flexible. It is perfect for both walkway and vehicular pathways. Likewise, paving systems are ordinarily ready in a vast variety of colors and designs. Thus, those systems could be practiced almost everywhere, without curbing the common beauty of the site. Compared with other materials, paving stone is quite affordable and available to use.

For all the pointed reasons, paving stones are becoming famous and widely applied. Do you possess a paving stone ground in your house?

Before you run out and buy paving stones and equipment, you need to check out this website about paving stones and paving in general.

A concrete kitchen floor is one of the most versatile flooring materials available to you today. It is able to take on just about any look that you are going for in your new kitchen. Also because of the nature of concrete if you ever do want to change it to another flooring material it is much easier to change then a lot of other materials because you do not need to rip it out to install a new material just install over the old concrete. This however will probably not be something you think about because of the beauty and durability of concrete.

Concrete used to be very plain and boring, but as most things has changed, and in a great way, over the years. It used to be only possible to get concrete in non-imaginative colors and styles but now-a-day you are able to get just about any looks you are going for out of concrete.

Due to its nature you are able to paint or stain it to give it a distinct look and feel put that along with its ease of maintenance and you have yourself one awesome material to use in not only the kitchen but the rest of the house as well.

Highlights of Concrete Flooring:

-Easy to repair and maintain

-Very durable and will resist water, fire, spills, and many other things

-Number of available choices

-Easy to change for a different look or a complete different material.

Negatives sides of Concrete Flooring:

-Hard under foot and not forgiving on objects that are dropped on it

-Cracks and stains can be a problem if not properly maintained

If you properly maintain your concrete kitchen flooring it should not require anything more then the occasional sweeping or mopping. Concrete has a wider cost range then most types of flooring due in large part to the number of options that are available today and the look you are trying to achieve.

The average cost ranges from $3-15 per square foot and can higher if you want to be very creative. For any family that is looking for a unique look blended with durability and ease of maintenance concrete flooring is a perfect pick for kitchen and your family.

When deciding on your garage floor, you may want to consider garage floor paint. Using garage floor paint, it’s easy to put a nice, shiny coat on your garage floor, making it easier to clean and also more attractive. If the garage floor has already been coated and that coating has either worn off or is now undesirable for whatever reason, than paint can be a good option for your garage floor. Most of these garage floor paints can be used to top other sealants or paints, providing they are clean and free of any contaminants. As garage floor paint is fairly thick, there’s usually no need for color matching or anything of the sort.

How Long Does It Take?

Some garage floor paint kits can take as little as three hours to apply, and this includes the time it takes to prepare the current flooring. It’s a very permanent solution that only takes about as long as the less permanent garage floors such as mats or tiling. This is, of course, only for the average garage. A larger garage will take longer.

Testing Your Concrete Garage Floor

Your concrete has to be prepared as per the garage floor paint manufacturers directions before the paint can be laid down successfully. This is true even if your garage floor is brand new and has never had anything at all placed on it. If the cement is not prepared correctly, you risk the paint not adhering and providing you with its long life and great finish.

The Mandatory 30 Day Wait

If the concrete is new, there is another set of conditions that must be observed. You can generally tell if concrete is new by the color; if it’s very dark, then it’s new, even if you can’t carve your initials into it. Most garage floor paint kit manufacturers want at least thirty days from the time it was laid before you put down their paint, though that will vary, so you’ll want to check your manual. If you’re not sure, try to get in touch with the contractor that laid the floor. If that’s not an option, you could always wait thirty days from the time you first saw the garage floor, just to be sure. It will have to be prepped and cleaned no matter what is on it, even if it looks like there’s nothing, so there’s no harm is using it for storage or cars until the thirty days has passed.

Garage Floor Paint: The Best Option?

Garage floor paint can be time consuming and difficult, but the rewards are great. When done correctly, it’s very shiny and pretty and will last a long time.

An epoxy garage floor coating is viewed as the best in garage flooring to many, and for very good reason. Epoxy garage floors last a very long time, often as long as the concrete itself, though you will have to sacrifice quite a lot of time, and there is a bit of difficulty.

If you’d like to know what it would be like to drive onto your own personal auto showroom floor, you may want to give thought to an epoxy garage floor. This type of floor is not only durable, but it’s also very shiny. Imagine seeing your own car in the floor’s reflection, be it either a brand new car or your old ’76 beater that’s seen better days. An epoxy garage floor coating is viewed as the best in garage flooring to many, and for very good reason. Epoxy garage floors last a very long time, often as long as the concrete itself, though you will have to sacrifice quite a lot of time, and there is a bit of difficulty. Every once in a while the garage floor paint will have to be refreshed with a new coat, but other than that, the initial install covers most of the work. Epoxy will not move or crumple under car tires, which is a problem with some other garage floor coverings.

Tough Epoxy Garage Flooring

Extremely tough, epoxy is a very long-lasting coating that is painted onto concrete. Different than normal paint, epoxy will resist grease, oils, and many other things that ruin or plain out dissolve ordinary paints. Regular paint wouldn’t be able to handle things like motor oils since they’re mostly oil based themselves, which means you need a special type of paint, such as epoxy. This is because when two oil based substances mix, they naturally attempt to combine with each other. This effect causes motor oil and paint to basically be mutually self destructive. Parts cleaner, grease, fuel, power steering fluid, brake fluid…all are petroleum based, and all have the same effect on petroleum based paints. It’s actually pretty interesting if you start thinking of just how petroleum based most of our lives’ are. That’s what’s great about epoxy based paints, though. Since they’re resin based, they’re not susceptible to damage from oil and oil based substances.

Old Shiny Epoxy Garage Floors

Just because your garage floor is old doesn’t mean it can’t be nice and shiny. Epoxy coating lasts for years, sometimes decades, and can be cleaned off and made to look new just like concrete, only without the staining since it doesn’t absorb chemicals like concrete does. It lasts so long because it bonds with the concrete at the microscopic level, as opposed other types of garage floors that either sit on top or stick to the first thing they come in contact with, be it dirt, dust, or whatever. Cleaning is generally just a matter of power washing, if that, since most chemicals will simply sit on top of the epoxy garage floor. Be careful that you don’t poison the ground around your garage with chemicals though, since you’re probably used to absorbing them with kitty litter or something and throwing them in the trash. Just because it doesn’t do any damage to the floor of your garage doesn’t mean it won’t hurt the earth.

Rainbow Of Garage Floor Coatings

When you think of epoxy coatings, if you have any picture in your head at all, it’s probably of a shiny gray floor. It’s an awesome color of gray, really it is, but it’s still gray. Not that you won’t see a huge improvement over the gray of your concrete garage floor, because you will, but some people would much prefer to have some sort of color there instead. For those people, there are various colors of epoxy kits. The only problem is, they’re often nearly impossible to find locally. Some hardware stores have been known to tell customers point blank that there is no such thing as colored epoxy kits, which is a blatant lie. Lots of people end up turning to the net to buy their garage floor coating kits, and many times this solution is cheaper than the hardware store anyway. Although buying things online can sometimes be a problem when you need to return something, I don’t think that problem would really exist for a garage floor kit.

The Great Concrete Garage Floor War: Will Epoxy Win?

Maybe. Well, probably. Epoxy does require a lot of preparing, as opposed to just about any other type of garage floor. Some concrete, though, simply can’t take a good epoxy coating. Even should your concrete be determined to be in good enough condition to accept a coating, it will have to be cleaned and etched, which is extremely tedious and labor intensive. There’s really no method of applying an epoxy garage floor that is for the faint of heart, or faint of back, for that matter. If you’re like me, and aren’t exactly in the best of shape, you may want to consider something a bit less intensive. Garage floor tiles, for instance, can be started and finished pretty much whenever you like, without regard to time limits and setting times. Small garage floor mats can be moved about when you need to, so sometimes they’re all you need. However, if your body or bank account are up to the task, an epoxy garage floor coating just might be for you.

There are probably few things in life that are more fun than simply blasting away at something using a power pressure washer. The most basic of these units come with the rudimentary parts: a high pressure pump, a reservoir, a spray hose, a nozzle, and a cord and plug for its motor. Fill the reservoir, plug it in, and you’re ready to blast. Be warned, though, that even the smallest units can blast over 1400 PSI of water, enough to hurt anyone in its path. It is a good idea, therefore, to only blast inanimate objects.

Let’s talk pressure, then. It is important that to get the right pressure unit for your chosen task. Use a unit that is capable of too much pressure, and you will be accidentally ripping paint off surfaces with your washer. A friend of mine actually did this while he was trying to clean his in-laws’ cars, so don’t say that I didn’t warn you of the dangers. Wood is an especially vulnerable surface to the ravages of exceedingly high pressures. Be sure to test your washer out on an inconspicuous area of a wooden surface first, lest you end up carving the surface into something else.

Gas washers are the way to go for serious washers. These versions simply overpower their electric counterparts, blasting away all forms of stains until only the gleaming metal beneath remains. Gas washers, for those of you who like numbers, are capable of around 3,000 PSI blasts, more than double the capacity of some electric washers. This is enough pressure to strip paint and carve wood (but only if you wanted to do so, of course).

There are hot and cold water versions for gas pressure washers. Hot water versions are particularly useful for areas where greasy, grimy stains regularly accumulate, such as vehicle repair stations and food processing plants (due to their machinery). Hot water units simply can’t be topped when you need to clean tough stains as quickly as possible, as hot water does a better job at dissolving than cold water does.

Cold water has its own uses, however, like for washing stadium seats, where heating enough water for the task will set you back thousands in fuel costs. Cleaning fences, sidewalks, and other similar surfaces, as well as hard-to-reach areas, are other good uses for pressurized cold water.

Hot or cold, just make sure that you have the appropriate attachments for the appropriate PSI rating unit, as different attachments handle different pressures and are used for different jobs. Visit a manufacturer or go to his website and do your research about these to save you time and money in the long run.

Special attachments of all sorts exist too: water brooms for floor cleaning jobs, power rotating water driven brushes for different surfaces around the house, multiple nozzles for jobs where you would need to adjust the size of your stream frequently, and so on. There are a lot of attachments out there; it is choosing the right ones for your jobs that will save you the time and extra effort of working more.
