Argument Solved! There are Benefits to Green Energy

November 2nd, 2009 No comments

For a very long time, we have relied on fossil fuels. It provides heat to our homes, gas for our cars and electricity. Since we are now using it more than ever, there is a consequence. We are depleting our resources and slowly killing our planet. Fortunately, we can change our ways and then shift our attention to green energy sources.

But why green energy sources? Well because there are advantages to using them which we will never be able to get if we dont change our ways. This is also even if some will argue that the problem with green energy is that it is sometimes difficult to generate the power we need. While that may be true, that is why there are other green energy sources available and we just to know which ones are viable given the geographic location.

The various green energy sources such as solar, wind, wave, hydropower and geothermal do not produce anything harmful which may have a negative effect on the environment. This is the exact opposite of what you get when you continue to operate a coal or nuclear power plant.

Fossil fuels produce carbon dioxide as a by-product. Individual coal plants do not put off much carbon dioxide. Until you consider, there are 50,000 coal plants around the world. It is estimated that this number will only increase. If we do not reverse this trend, we may not have a world.

Nuclear plants may not release anything harmful into the air. The issue is how we dispose of the spend rods and if another nuclear accident should occur. We remember Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. We have probably learned better ways to prevent another incident from happening. Through the years, a few minor accidents have occurred and although the leak was contained, just imagine if it was not?

Green energy also requires maintenance. Windmills have mechanical parts that must be maintained. Corn to make ethanol must be grown. Biomass fuels require the trash to be separated and sorted. All of these choices are more attractive than fossil fuels. Green energy utilizes facilities that are cheaper to operate.

Green sources have one advantage that fossil fuels cannot compete with. Green energy is renewable. We will NEVER run out of green energy. Sun’s rays have hit the earth for millions of years. These rays have produced wind for millions of years. Utilizing green energy sources reduces America’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Every American has a choice. We can continue to increase our appetite for fossil fuels or we can pursue renewable energy sources. Our governments are only giving lip service to green energy. They hold summits and conferences on global climate change. They tell us we have to reduce our use of fossil fuels but do not offer any alternatives.

Awareness does not always mean change. Daily we are told that global climate change is here. People are told what they should do. Yet, not even the government is building wind mills or erecting solar panels. Who will lead by example?

Green energy sources is the solution to the environmental, political and social problems of this lifetime. By spending more on these technologies, no country will have to depend on another or even a corporation for their power needs because they are self dependent and free.

Solar Light: A Beautiful And Affordable Enhancement For YourHomes And Gardens.

June 8th, 2009 No comments

It was not so long ago that solar lights seemed like a great idea, but in real life they just couldn’t deliver on their promise. With an extremely short battery life and producing only a minimal amount of light, solar lights seemed less than prepared for prime time.

In the last two years, solar lights have come an incredibly long way. The latest solar lights are an entirely new breed.

The new generations of solar lights are better designed, longer lasting and much brighter than previous models. New solar lights are also cheaper, making them a better value all around.

Think for a minute about solar lights in terms we can all relate to: Star Trek. The original 1960s incarnation of the show featured some technologies which seemed impossibly advanced at the time like hand held portable communication devices and GPs systems which were already available to consumers a few decades later when the Next Generation series aired in the 1990s.

Solar lighting can also be compared to the great strides cell phones have made in the last ten to fifteen years. Cell phones used to be bulky, expensive devices compared to the extremely small Bluetooth-enabled headsets on the market now. Advances in battery and microprocessor technologies have made cell phones so portable and cheap that nearly everyone now carries one.

The technology for batteries has improved greatly and what used to require thick batteries can easily be done with ultra thin ones. They also are able to deliver more power for a longer period of time, letting very small devices be capable of doing more than just being a phone.

The technologies used in solar lights are no exception to this rapid evolution. New models of solar lights give off bright light for several nights after charging in the sub for just a day.

Solar powered lights have also largely abandoned incandescent bulbs in favor of highly efficient light emitting diode arrays (LEDs).

LED arrays used with a single reflector give solar lights the luminescence of a 220 volt incandescent bulb – but there are many advantages to the latest wave of solar lights over the older models:

1. The bulbs last for around 10,000 hours before giving out

2. LEDs require no maintenance

3. 9% higher efficiency than solar lights using incandescent bulbs while using a mere 3 watts of power.

4. Safe to use in any indoor or outdoor setting

With the new technology offered by the LEDs, the new battery capabilities and the new photovoltaic technology of the solar panels, you can easily convert sunlight into free solar power.

The latest models of solar lights can be used for all sorts of lighting designs and save you a lot of money at the same time.

Solar lighting is easy to install since it requires no wiring. You can place them anywhere that they will get enough sunlight to charge during the day and by night, they can light your garden paths, flower beds, deck or anywhere else you want them.

Since they use solar energy, solar lights are free to use and will not strain your electrical wiring. Holiday displays using solar lights are free, festive and environmentally sound.

Solar fairy lights can add beautiful twinkling accents to outdoor holiday displays or summer garden parties and cookouts.

Solar lights are also a great way to light your tool shed or garage; they are a reliable backup system which is always there for you in the event of a power outage.

Solar lights give you the freedom of easily installing lights wherever you want that will cost you nothing for the power it is all free from the sun!

Solar power lights are gentle on the environment as well as on your finances.

Since they’re easy enough to install and move as desired, you can change your outdoor lighting configuration whenever you like.

Burglars prefer to do their nefarious work in the dark. A lighting system which stays on all night can be a powerful deterrent to thieves. Best of all, solar powered lights can’t be disabled by cutting your electrical wires and they will continue to light your property whether or not you happen to be home. Thieves would rather move on to lower hanging fruit than to risk being seen.

Solar lights also make your home more attractive from the street. If you are looking to sell your home, these lights give your home added curb appeal when seen at night. If you were looking at homes, you’d probably think more favorably about a home which was lit with free, environmentally friendly solar lighting than one which was dark once the sun sets.

Solar lighting presents a whole new approach to outdoor lighting which any homeowner should explore for themselves.
