It seems as if the days of women wanting to stay at home is returning. More and more women are choosing to stay at home to raise their kids, no matter the cost. So what these women have to learn to make a one income family work is a wide variety of crafty skills.

A big skill that can pay off big time is cooking. The ability to cook and bake is far underestimated. And with the power of the internet, one can find a never ending supply of wonderful recipes. When you learn to bake, you can start baking your own bread, which can end up saving you quite a bit throughout the course of a year.

Another home and hobby skill that comes in handy is sewing on a sewing machine. Many homemakers are producing quilts that are works of art. These beautiful offerings can be made inexpensively by recycling unwanted fabrics into squares and other shapes and artistically arranging the pieces. Other sewing skills that are useful for the stay-at-home-mom are mending, altering, and creating clothing.

When it comes time for any home remoldeling, any skills in woodworking will be mighty useful. By doing things yourself, you can make that one person income stretch even farther. And with the internet, you can find nearly anything you need as far as information for free, or really cheap!

You can also cut back on costs by growing your own vegetables and fruit in your own garden. And if you were to take you garden to the next level and build a green house, you could really get things going. And gardening gives you that sense of accomplishment, so you not only get great quality food, but you get a boost of self confidence.

And just because you’re cutting back on money doesnt mean you cant have jewellery, just learn how to make it! Jewellery can get preatty expensive in stores. Making jewellery yourself isnt as difficult as one might think, plus you get to save money and design what you really want. And if you’re looking for a little extra cash, you can sell some of it.

By the time you master the different techniques of crafting, you can turn your home into a thing of beauty at very little cost. You can even find ideas that are free if you need to. Just make a collage of old clothes that you were planning on throwing away.

It is no wonder why women today want to stay home and craft. And while we still need women out there in the work field, the impact of more women returning to the home will be quite significant for many generations to come.
