Pond Ideas

If you are thinking about building a pond in your garden then there is a lot to think about, from the way you want your pond to look with the shape and plants and fish, to how big the pond will be and where abouts in your garden will be the best spot for your enjoyment.

There are many other things to consider that will determine what the finished pond will be like and some of these will be down to personal choice, like what type of fish you will be keeping, whether it will be Goldfish or another variety.

Now your essentials will be the filter and pump and of course all ponds need these, but if it is a Koi pond then these become very important as the water will want to be crystal clear. So before construction starts on any kind of pond some more essentials to think about are the electric and water supply, these will need to be as close to the pond as possible to make life easier.

The sort of extras that we can add and enjoy are best thought about at the planning stage as most things are easier installed at the outset as the pond gets built, rather than trying to add to the pond later on. This is why careful planning is vital to the successful outcome of the pond.

A fountain is something that we may want to consider, they look great and sound great, but also help aerate the the water for the fish. These are best set up with a separate pump so they can be turned off without affecting the filter system. You will probably want to turn them off during the night as in the dead of the night they can suddenly become noisy.

If you want a bit of the wow factor for your pond then you will not go far wrong by adding a waterfall to its design. They can add to the natural lokk and blend into the landscape. The scope for designing a waterfall is as endless as the design of the pond itself.

After dark you can really add something special to the overall effect of your pond by adding some lights, from different colors to above or below water, you can really create something amazing for when the evenings draw in making your pond come alive after dark.

Another important thing to consider in the planning stages of building a pond is the type of fish you will be getting for your pond. This may determine the way in which your pond is going to be constructed. A pond housing Goldfish may be a different design to one housing Koi, but on your desicion and completion of your pond will come the fun part of picking your very own fish.
