Organization The Key To A Good Relocation & Move
Why you are moving doesn’t really matter too much, but if, you are moving to a new place, maybe just across town, wherever and whenever you move, a relocation and move is always stressful, despite how much you try to be organized in advance. Moving does need to be organized, whether you are wanting a piano moved , or moving a house or other building, and before you ask you can actually move your house to a new site these days.
One of the most important decisions you have to make is which moving company to use, and whether you should use their full moving services or not. To make this decision depends on who is paying for the move. If it is a move to another country and the company is paying to relocate you, then getting them to pack and move everything is so much easier for you. However, if you have to pay the bill, your finances might not be able to stretch that far. It is expensive to move however you do it, but some prefer to have complete control by doing everything themselves, so they know where everything is.
If you are relocating internationally, then you need to use professional movers who are familiar with all the paper work that needs to be completed. They can inform you about the rules of importing goods to another country, and those that need to be stored or sold before you leave.
Obviously, if you are moving a piano, you need to call in professionals in to move it for you, as that is a very awkward, sensitive instrument to move, and should be looked after carefully. However, if you just have a couch to move, you may want to use some friends and use a rental van. But do be careful and think this option through carefully. Are you colleagues insured to move your possessions? What if they damage their back, are they going to sue you? If you just have a few items, then that might not be a problem, but to move all your household goods from one place to another can be very hard on bodies that are not used to this level of exercise. My advice – leave it to the experts. They have the fitness level, medical coverage, your household goods will be insured, they are covered against accidents, and you will be more relaxed, or perhaps it should be phrased as less stressed if you use the professionals.
Even amongst the expert moving companies you have a choice, but remember that cheap doesn’t always mean a job will be completed successfully. A company that charges less has to cut its costs somewhere, so before you find out through experience, find out all the details you can. It isn’t always straight forward, I know, as some companies charge by the hour, others just for the entire job, so you are not comparing apples with apples, but you can get a good idea of the expenses involved.
The most important thing of all is to start getting immediately. Get rid of things you don’t want to move, either in a garage sale, or to a charity, or if they really are rubbish, into the garbage or recycling, and do this as soon as possible. Not only will you feel good that you have reduced the amount to move, but you will have less clutter in the house to reorganize what is remaining!
So, print your lists of things to be done, and the dates of when they need to be finished, and keep them close by you so you can refer to them all the time. Make notes of people you spoke to, when, and what their responses were to your requests, then you won’t have to call again, or wonder whether you did or not. Relocation is a time when there is way too much to consider and decide about, so make notes as detailed as you can so that you know what is happening. If you are organized and thorough, then you relocation or move should go well for you – and good luck!
