Creating A Peaceful Garden Of Perennials

August 5th, 2009 No comments

If you have ever gardened (even a little bit) than you will know that gardens are beautiful and peaceful places. They can calm your mind and soul. Having a lovely flower garden is one of the great joys in life. Here are some tips to make it beautiful.

Pay attention to the plants.

When you choose a perennial garden (meaning the plants come back every year) then you will need to make sure that the plants not only are suited to your climate or zone, but also bloom in succession, so that you always have something blooming in your garden.

This is not as hard as it sounds. Shopping at a local nursery will pretty much ensure that you get perennials that are hardy for your area of the country, and just looking at the labels will tell you the bloom times.

If you prefer a more planned out approach you can always purchase a garden map or layout that is made for your zone, and just buy the plants listed. This way your garden will be as easy to put together as possible.

Add paths, fences, and statues.

When you are planting a garden it is easy to get focused on just the plants, but adding other elements can really make your personality shine.

Use pathways, garden fences, and garden statues in order to get really great effect from your plants. You can easily do an Asian inspired theme with some polished river rock, a Buddha, and some carefully chosen plants. Or you can achieve a cottage look with white picket edging and a garden statue of children at play paired with a nice assortment of cottage perennials.

Don’t forget to water.

In most climates it is essential to water to water your garden at least occasionally. A good rule of thumb is to water every 3 days unless it rains. A soaker hose is an easy way to get water into your garden in a way that won’t waste it.

Importance of Artistic Designing for the Sunroom

June 6th, 2009 No comments

The benefit of glass sunrooms is that it gives an impression of space and enlarges the dimensions of the house. So, if you want to enjoy a sunroom in the true sense of the term and attain a feeling of being outdoors, watch the moonlit night, the autumnal fall of the beautiful leaves, or the wonder of a beautiful sunset, then these sunrooms are exactly what you are looking for. Whatever kind of sunroom you may have, you need to remember that the design of the sunroom should take into account factors like the width and thickness of the insulated glass panels, the type of materials to be used for the sunroom, the live load and the wind load, the height of the walls, the thickness of the walls, type of wood that has to be used, aluminum alloy specifications, size of the room etc.

Apart from these, the actual sunroom designing should also be done with a lot of care. Factors like the color used can make a big difference in the functionality of this room. For example, dark colors lead to energy consumption and also make it appear smaller than it actually is. For this reason, it is always advisable to have a light color scheme like pink, cream, blue, white, light green etc. for the sunroom. Using such colors will ensure that less energy is used and the room is not subjected to extreme temperatures with the changing of the seasons. Another advantage of light colors is that it complements a variety of furniture themes and the room looks spacious and bright. Since a sunroom always gathers plenty of sunlight into its fold, the presence of water bodies in the sunroom creates a sense of balance and enhances the soothing quality of the room. Aquariums and water fountains find their ideal setting in a sunroom. After all, what could be more mesmerizing than the soft and rippling sound of water in the calm silence of the sunroom?

In fact, you could give a free rein to your imagination and indulge yourselves by strategically placing water containers that have aquatic plants, lilies, duckweed etc in your sunroom. Having multi-colored fish inside your water garden is again something that will transform the entire look and feel of the sunroom. Using Wicker furniture will create a down to earth feel to your room. It would not be an understatement to say that the furniture that you use in this room has the power to bring about the mood that you want for the sunroom. To sum it up, sunrooms are amazing in themselves but if you pay some attention to the designing and decoration of this room, you will attain a beautiful paradise that you can retreat to every now and then to forget the worries of the world and rejuvenate yourselves. So, go ahead and invest some thought and care into the designing of your sunroom enclosure!
