Tips for Handling Your Next Move

Whether you are packing up an apartment or an entire home, there are several ways to make the job more fun and less stressful. Here is a helpful collection of tips for surviving a future move.

Before you even begin to get organized, it is helpful to gather supplies first. Gather boxes for moving at either a local retail moving supply store or set out to find free boxes from your local grocery or mall. Asking workers when their food or clothing shipments come in is helpful to figure out when the most boxes will be available. You can also buy rubber bins with lids for easy storage and reusability. Be sure to buy packing tape, markers/labels, bubble wrap, and packing paper. Try to avoid using newspaper as the ink will stain your items. Whatever route you take, make sure to gather more supplies and boxes for moving than you think you will need to avoid extra errands later.

If possible, attempt to save wardrobe bags weeks before your move date. These can in most cases store coats, gowns, and formal outfits. and you can locate these things online. The garment bags are perfect for transporting hanging clothes and keep them safe from damage, liquids, wrinkles, etc.

Make sure to label each box as you pack with either a permanent marker or a colored label. It will save time to create a colored tag system to mark the rooms in your your new house or apartment.e. Green goes in the living room, blue in the kitchen, etc. This will help your movers when they arrive at your new home.

Try and pack as much as you can before the actual day of the move. Gather the items you know you will not need during the last week before moving day and pack those first. Another way to not become too overwhelmed is to pack room by room. Begin with the smallest spaces first then move to the bigger rooms that have more things that need to be packed, after you become used to your packing style.

Movers get booked early especially in Summer, so start early to get your moving quote and your mover reserved. It helps to shop around for quotes from different movers or ask friends and relatives for recommendations. When making your reservation, movers will often ask you to supply a detailed listing of your items. Sit down and create a detailed list room by room of what you want to move. Also, make sure to be familiar with any additional fees the mover may charge for moving blankets, tape, transportation costs, etc.

When moving day finally comes make sure that important paperwork such as deeds, wills and passports stay with you and out of the moving boxes.

Overall, if you plan ahead and stay organized, moving should be a fun and stress-free experience.

Why You Should Use Quality Moving Storage Supplies

Moving is stressful under the best of circumstances. Don’t make it any tougher on yourself by using the wrong moving supplies and boxes. With the right moving boxes, packing paper, and other essential moving supplies – not to mention the right technique – you can get from here to there with all your personal items intact.

Many people are tempted to cut corners at this stage. They’ll scour the local grocery store for cardboard boxes. They’ll stack up newspapers. They’ll run short on time and make do with whatever they can get their hands on just to get by. Unfortunately, the likely results are all too predictable: broken irreplaceable treasures.

Using packing boxes designed for the job should be a priority. They’re made to withstand the rough and tumble of a move and their sizes are designed for a variety of items of different shapes and weights. With the right moving packing supplies, your valuable household items will be well protected and the chore of packing will be a lot easier. There’s nothing a mover dreads more than having to transport a load of improperly packed items.

Now if you were to bring home those boxes from the local store you’ll end up with a lot of small ones that aren’t reinforced the way packing boxes are. They’re not designed to tough out the trip in the back of a truck. You’ll also have to squash your clothing into them – so when you arrive at the other end you’ll have some ironing to do.

For clothing, there are special wardrobe boxes available. They’re designed specifically for clothing and they make packing it easy. The box contains a rod that can be fitted snugly into pre-made holes. So you simply lift your clothing – hangers and all – from the wardrobe and hang them in the box. Hey presto, no ironing at the other end.

If you choose to use boxes that are too small to do the job properly, you’ll end up using heaps of them. Now a few small boxes that you might take in your car is one thing, but lots of small boxes means lots of trips carrying them and if you’re moving them around yourself, you’re going to get tired and cranky very quickly.

It’s worse than that if you hire professionals and they arrive to see a poorly packed stack of little supermarket boxes. They may have wheeled trolleys and a truck ramp but they certainly won’t appreciate the extra time it will take to load them and the extra time they’ll have to spend positioning them in the truck. But hey, if you’re paying by the hour they might not mind at all – it’ll all go onto your bill!

Packing and moving supplies have been designed specifically for the task of moving – so it’s a good idea to use them!

A simple square cardboard moving box might look like just an ordinary box but it isn’t. Its corners have been reinforced, and there is corrugated material in the box that helps the boxes to remain intact under weight from above.

Don’t stop at picking up the proper moving boxes – you’ll need other moving supplies too like strong packing tape, packing paper and some good bubble wrap for fragile items. Wrapped in strong paper, placed in sturdy storage boxes and sealed up with the right tape, your possessions have the best chance of arriving intact – along with your sanity.
