Shutters Can Take The Place of Blinds

June 4th, 2009 No comments

Decorative shutters are very popular because they are inexpensive and are a quick way to make the outside of any house look better. Most shutters you see now days on windows are shutters that are nothing more than props and made to look like the real thing. They dont move or have any purpose other than to look good.

A common shutter that does have a working purpose is a cafe shutter. Most of the time you will find them in kitchens and other ground floor windows and they take the place of blinds. Cafe shutters, when closed, only cover the lower half of a window and thus provide privacy. The upper half of the window is uncovered and lets light in. You can open the bottom part as well to let light in.

Of all the shutters styles, cafe shutters are some of the most interesting because of their look. Cafe shutters only cover the bottom part of a window and that part can be opened if you like. This type of shutter is used in places where you want some privacy from outside and yet you want to let some light in as well. Cafe shutters are often put in kitchens where light is always needed yet you don’t necessarily want the neighbors peering in at you. They are a good alternative to blinds in this type of situation and might even be superior, as you don’t have to fiddle with cafe shutters as much as you do with blinds.

Another type of shutter that can provide privacy are roll up shutters. Roll up shutters are usually put on houses and used to block out the sunlight. This type of shutter is popular on houses in the desert states where the sun is hot and relentlessly bright. People have them installed over their west looking windows to keep the heat and bright light out.

Decorative shutters and real working indoor and outdoor shutters can usually be found in home improvement stores and sometimes in stores that carry windows. To get the biggest variety of choices, however, you need to go online. You can find every type of shutter there is online and you can order them and have them delivered. If you do get them online though, you will have the problem of installing them. If you are getting decorative shutters they are quite easy to install as they have no moving parts but you might need to hire a professional to install shutters that are they real kind.
