What You Must Know Before Purchasing a Reception Desk

September 28th, 2009 Chris Walton No comments

An office desk is not the same as a reception desk. Office desks are normal desks that a business employee might have, whereas a reception desk will have a higher front end to allow for customers to lean on it as they talk to the receptionist seated there. What many people don’t know is the difference between reception desks and reception counters. Reception counters can hold a few receptionists and are higher up off the ground. You may have seen these in the doctor’s office or the airport.

Before choosing your reception desk, you need to know exactly what kind you want. For example, if you chose a bespoke reception counter, it could take up to six weeks to arrive because they are made to your specifications.

Now, if you were to go with a modular reception desk, you might be saving a little time and a little money. These types of counters can fit into many different places and can be made larger to add extra staff. You can get these in a set type or built-to-order. If you choose the ladder option, youre looking at about four weeks for delivery. However, sometimes the models could be ready in only a week.

You need to keep in mind two important things when purchasing your reception counter. Number one, the Disabilities Act may be a factor which will cause you to move a section of the desk closer to the ground, making it easier for employees who are in wheelchairs to work for you.

Another thing is the finish. You need to know which type of finish you want on your counter. A clean looking wood finish is the number one choice for many people, but it can be more expensive and harder to keep up the look. So many people opt for a fake wood finish that is cheaper and easier to clean.
